forbes & craig music hall

This proposal for a performing arts building serves as a gateway to Carnegie Mellon's campus while introducing the arts of CMU by responding to the recessed facade design of the Carnegie Museum of Art across the street. With the recurring theme of continuity, organic forms bridge spaces and create a sense of wholeness within the audience chamber and on the exterior of the building, employing mesh bands that wrap around the Craig Street-facing facade. The horizontal bands serve as viewpoint controls as well as a marquee. Breaks in the bands and stretched points along the envelope pull visitors in from the street.
